In our last article we talked about old school vs. new school photographers. Now let’s get an understanding of how that translates into choosing a photographer for your picture day.
We have been touching on how digital technology has revolutionized the photography industry. It has also revolutionized the products and services available by today’s youth sports photographers. Where does the history of digital photography really start? Looking at various historical overviews, it quickly becomes clear that the starting point depends quite a bit on your point of view…
Digital cameras use image sensors instead of film to sample light. They do this thanks to the photoelectric effect in which some metals release electrons when exposed to light.
You could probably argue that Albert Einstein – who won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the photoelectric effect – got the ball rolling in the history of digital photography!
Often incorporated into the history of digital photography, is the camera designed by Texas Instruments Inc. in 1972. However, this camera was not digital, but an analog-based, film-less device.

Which digital camera should I buy, is a pretty open ended question. It’s the kind of question that begs the asking of other questions. Questions like: “How much money to you want to spend?” . . . “What do you like to take pictures of?” . . . “How much do you know about photography?” . . . “What kind of cameras have you owned before?” . . . and so on, and so on. Since obviously, I don’t know your answers to any of the previous questions, I’m going to assume a few typical answers. From those assumptions, I’ve come up with three typical buyer persona’s. Just for the fun of it, let’s call those personas Britney, Paris, and Lindsay. Let’s see what would be the best cameras for each of them to purchase.

Canon recently announced that they are releasing three new wireless file transmitters (WFT) that will give professional photographers added ability to streamline their workflow process by helping to upload and share their work around the world within seconds of snapping a photo. These new wireless transfer units make it easy for photographers to connect to Wi-Fi or LAN networks with a simple touch of a button. Photographers are ecstatic with this new leap in technology that will allow photographers the world over to speed up the process of downloading their photos, transferring files, and so much more. The first three new WTF models are set to accompany the top three professional digital SLR camera models that Canon offers: The WFF-E2 II A for the 1D Mark IV, the WFT-E4 IIA for the 5D Mark II, and the WFT-EF A for the 7D.

When dealing with digital camera prices, avoid your natural tendency of “buy low, sell high.” What do we mean?
Let’s say you’re interested in purchasing a Canon digital SLR. Once you’re sure you have identified your ideal camera, you search the internet and photography magazines for the best price. In this example, the “retail” price for the Canon body is $700 (remember – SLRs are only the camera body, which can be mated to a variety of individually purchased lenses).
After checking a variety of sources for discounted digital camera prices, you determine the best prices for this specific Canon digital SLR runs between $570-$590. What do you do?
I buy it from the place selling it for $570, of course!

Photographers normally shooting handheld at 1/250 sec can switch on IS to obtain a similarly steady and blur-free result with a shutter speed of just 1/15 second. The inclusion of automatic panning detection makes it easier for photographers to track wildlife and other moving subjects. Photographers can also enable additional noise reduction for shots captured at high ISO speeds. Photographers normally shooting a 300mm frame handheld at 1/500s can obtain the equivalent result with a shutter speed of just 1/60s, vastly extending options in low light conditions.

What is composition? The word means, the act of combining parts or elements to form a whole. So, in photography, the elements or parts are the subjects you see through the viewfinder or on the LCD screen of your camera. Another definition of composition is, something that is the result of creative effort. This definition lends itself quite well to the creativity available in photography. Elements of a camera bag include protective rainflaps, lens cradle, shoulder straps, and deep mesh pockets, as example.
